FAQ
Questions
Answers to common questions asked by our non-technical clients.
Have you heard of Squarespace, Shopify?
Yes. Squarespace and Shopify are general-purpose site and commerce platforms. Piktur is built for artists and galleries. Its catalogue, publishing and sales tools help you return to the studio sooner.
Your catalogue should outlive any company or policy change. Squarespace and Shopify manage your site; leaving usually means starting over.
Piktur’s site builder lets you take your data with you and redeploy to any static hosting service.
Your catalogue is platform-agnostic. Your site is the central authority from which you broadcast to social networks and marketplaces.

I'm not technical. Do I have to learn anything?
No. We handle deployment, hosting, domain registration, and integrations. You can edit through the content editor if you want to, but you do not need to learn it.
Send us the content and we’ll do the rest.
What does "you own it" actually mean?
No questions asked. Ask at any time and allow at least 7 business days after confirming the request. The free export contains every page from the last successful build, every asset supporting that build, and catalogue data, provenance records, and certificates in open formats. Asset references are rewritten to absolute paths for rehosting.
Your site remains live under the existing subscription while the export is prepared. Ordinary subscription terms continue until the agreed cancellation date. After the subscription ends, you forfeit subscription-only features managed by Piktur: payments, print on demand, shipping, and email. Reconnect those services under accounts and contracts you control.
A full transfer includes the repository, keys, database, domain, services reconnected in your name, and a maintenance guide. The work carries a quoted transfer fee, agreed before work begins.
Where's my site hosted? Can I avoid US platforms?
Subscription sites are hosted on Cloudflare, in locations chosen by Cloudflare. Cloudflare is a US company, so this subscription is not an answer for anyone who must avoid US platforms.
Deployment to a nominated AWS region or self-managed infrastructure is available only as quoted consulting work.
How much does it cost after launch?
Portfolio and Artist use the advertised plan rate.
Gallery costs A$229/month + A$59.40/month/artist. Each artist receives Artist features at 40% discount per artist.
Annual billing applies the annual discount to the base and artist seats, with the year paid upfront.
How much will it cost to get started?
When subscriptions open, you pay for your first billing period. There is no separate setup fee.

Who is the Artist plan for?
Solo practitioners selling originals, prints, and editions on their own domain. From A$99/month.
You write your own statement, your own essays, your own captions. The platform stays out of the way — restraint, considered template, code you own.
If you’ve outgrown a Squarespace template but you don’t have an Artlogic budget, this is for you.
Who is the Gallery plan for?
Boutique galleries with a multi-artist cohort, collaborative workflows. From A$229/month, plus artist seats at a 40% discount per artist.
Invite collaborators to edit via the Content Management System (CMS), cultivate collections, provenance and syndicate to Artsy. Catalogue operations without enterprise pricing.
What is The Index?
The Index at Kulchured is a curated directory of all Piktur artists. It is searchable index of works writing about the work.
What about Artlogic, ArtCloud, Masterpiece Manager?
Artlogic, ArtCloud and Masterpiece Manager are established platforms for the art market.
Piktur provides provenance and a cohort and content management system at competitive prices. Artsy distribution is available through eligible gallery arrangements.

How fast can I launch?
Hours from content-ready to live. Domain, SSL, payments and deployment are automated.
If you’re migrating an existing catalogue, allow 1–3 days for ingestion review. We parse — you approve.
Do you generate my content with AI?
No. Piktur does not write content, nor speak in your voice.
The Index is curated.
So called, “AI” is used where appropriate, to:
- Parse and organize unstructured user content.
- Generate accessibility (a11y) alt-text suggestions.
- Translate human-authored copy.
I do not intend to contribute to, or exacerbate, the pernicious, accelerating erosion of the public commons with deceptive, synthetic prose. Not in your name, or mine. I deem such to be unscrupulous and ultimately damaging to the public good. That said, one must “be fire with fire”.
Why only one template?
We do not expect you to also be a web designer.
What is provenance metadata?
The structured record that proves what a work is, where it came from, and where it has been.
Every work on every site carries:
- Object ID — the Getty / ICOM / UNESCO minimum dataset, customs-recognised globally.
- Acquisition chain — append-only, content-addressed.
- Condition history — dated, attributable, signed.
- Linked Art export — JSON-LD, museum-importable.
This is a unique offering; normally the preserve of Artlogic-class platforms.
How does Piktur compare?
A buyer’s guide to catalogue platforms.
Where we lead — compared with Squarespace, Shopify, Wix and GoDaddy

- Code ownership — your site is a git repository. No vendor lock; migrate or self-host any time.
- Time-to-launch — hours from content-ready to live. Templated wireframe, automated deploy, no bespoke build wait.
- Editorial integrity — we won’t generate content, or speak in your voice.
- An opinionated template — we do not expect you to also be a web designer.
